Treasures of the Snow: Children Learning to Forgive

As part of our quest to completely eradicate the spirit of anger from our home, we recently watched this classic film based on the wonderful story Treasures of the Snow by Patricia St. John.

The book makes a GREAT read aloud and is also recommended reading for tweens and teens alike.

As the story goes, Lucien, angry at his neighbor and schoolmate Annette, takes out his frustrations on her little brother, inadvertently causing a terrible accident that leaves little Dani crippled for life. Thus begins Annette's quest to ruin what is left of Lucien's reputation.

Lucien meets a reclusive woodcarver who begins investing his time in the sullen young man, teaching him a valuable trade. When the school teacher announces a handwork competition, Lucien is confident he will be awarded the prize and finally win the admiration and approval of his classmates. In the meantime, he makes a very special gift for Dani. Annette's bitterness ruins all of Lucien's plans and eventually he must find another means to make restitution. Will Annette ever learn to forgive Lucien?

Filmed in the Swiss Alps, this 1980 film is one our family has watched again and again.

  1. That brings back memories for me! Our family watched it many times when I was growing up. My brothers and I eventually got tired of it and my Mom gave it to a girl that was younger than us. :) It was VHS anyway, I wouldn't mind getting a DVD of it sometime to show my own children. :)

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment; this is very encouraging to me! As I realize that not everyone will agree with the way we choose to live our lives, I will allow negative comments, as long as they are respectful.
